This is an alternative service model, comprised of several complimentary components: two lending library kiosks, holds pick-up lockers and a returns bin. It is a newer type of library service, with automated holds pickup lockers and vending-machine style library material dispensers, the first of their kind in Canada.
Library material dispensers
These dispensers are a vending-machine style delivery system for library books. There are two kiosk dispensers with specialized popular collections for children and adults.
Customers can borrow items from the machine by scanning their library card and punching in the row number of the item they wish to borrow. The desired item will fall into a receptacle at the bottom of the kiosk and a receipt is also available from the machine. It is important to note that Kiosk collection items cannot be requested or renewed.
Holds pick-up lockers
Temporarily out of order: holds pick-up lockers at Hunt Club Riverside Park Community Centre
The holds pick-up lockers at the Hunt Club Riverside Park Community Centre (HCRPCC) are out of order until early 2024 due to technology issues. No security breach occurred, and no client information was compromised. The library material vending machines and the return bin remain available. Clients can contact InfoService for further assistance.
Items from across the library can be picked at Hunt Club Riverside Park Community Centre during its opening hours using the holds lockers. Customers can request items through the library website to be picked up from the lockers, by choosing the pick-up location HRL. Alternatively, customers should select the pick-up location of HRAL if they have accessibility needs, which limits their ability to reach or bend for locker use, as this will ensure that items are placed in one of the lockers in the middle six rows.
Customers will receive a notification when their hold is available for pick up from the locker. It will be held in the locker for 7 days and is accessible during the community centre’s opening hours. Holds must be picked up before 12 pm on the day of expiry. Customers retrieve holds by scanning their card which will automatically open the appropriate locker and check out the items to their card. Unwanted holds that have automatically been checked out can immediately be put in the returns bin at the community centre.
Returns bin
Customers can return items from any branch, Bookmobile stop, or Kiosk machine into the returns bin at the Hunt Club Riverside Park Community Centre.
