New OPL Adult Library Challenge: Stories of Summer

Monday, June 17, 2024

OTTAWA — As summer begins to embrace the city, Ottawa Public Library (OPL) is delighted to announce a new initiative designed to enrich the community’s sunny days with a literary twist. Starting Thursday, June 20, OPL will launch its first-ever, system-wide adult summer program Stories of Summer: Adult Library Challenge.

Whether participants are voracious readers or simply looking for a fun way to engage with the community and get back into reading books this program offers something for all adults. Bingo cards are central to the Stories of Summer challenge and will be available at all OPL branches as well as on the OPL website on June 20. Library staff are preparing special booklists for the occasion.

How to Participate:

  1. Get a bingo card: Participants can pick up a bingo card from a library branch or print a digital copy.
  2. Complete challenges: Each square on the card presents a different reading or library-related challenge. Themes include Indigenous authors, Canadian authors, poetry, special picture books, and world languages.
  3. Return for prizes: Once a row, column, or diagonal on the bingo card is completed, participants can bring it back to the library between August 26 and September 30 to exchange it for a prize voucher.

To make the most out of the Stories of Summer challenge, OPL branches will feature thematic displays with the hope to inspire the next read and help participants complete their bingo cards.

In addition to the bingo cards, OPL has delightful Stories of Summer branded seed bookmarks. These eco-friendly bookmarks are perfect for keeping a place in summer reads and can also be planted to grow something beautiful. They will be available during any adult or older adult event at the Library throughout the summer.

OPL looks forward to encouraging adult readers to make the most of their Stories of Summer experience.
