OPL presents: Law at the Library program series

Ottawa –The Ottawa Public Library (OPL) is delighted to present the Law at the Library series coming to you this fall! This program series is brought to you by a partnership with the Ontario Bar Association. Lawyers from the OBA will be present in these informal sessions to offer an overview of the law and to ensure you know your rights and responsibilities for various legal situations. There will be four types of sessions, all targeting different audiences, which will be offered in English this fall in different branches of the Ottawa Public Library:

Immigration Law:
Learn about your legal rights and responsibilities regarding immigration. Attendees will learn all about applying for a visitor visa, for permanent residency and how to become a Canadian citizen.

Wednesday November 1, 6:30 p.m. Alta Vista branch (2516 Alta Vista)

Family Law:
This interactive session will offer basic legal information relating to family law, including an overview on divorce, separation, child custody, and adoption law in Ontario.

Workplace Rights of Employees:
Learn about your legal rights and obligations as an employee as well as your employer’s obligations, including an overview of the legal framework of employee rights. Familiarize yourself with resources that are easily accessible, and discuss steps to address issues that arise in the work place.

Make a Will:
Explore the importance of having a will, why they are important and what happens if you do not have one.
