Plug in to Canada with iCanada

Dec 28 2017

Ottawa –The Ottawa Public Library (OPL) is proud to present the iCanada; a brand new addition to the EXPRESS collection. The iCanada is a red iPod shuffle preloaded with a selection of Canadian content to close out Canada 150. Each iPod is loaded with 10 songs by Canadian artists, one audiobook by a Canadian author, and features an audio recording of an OPL Canada 150 program.

The iCanada was inspired by OPL’s understanding of the needs of its Homebound Services customers, as well as a growing partnership with “Seniors’ Centre Without Walls”, a program at the Good Companions that provides programming by phone for isolated seniors in Ottawa. Inspiration also came from an iPod lending program at the Arnprior Public Library for residents in local nursing homes to spread the beneficial effects of music on cognitive health and well-being.

The iCanada gives portable access to a sampling of Canadian content and library programs, removing barriers and increasing access to OPL programming on alternate formats.

Each iCanada iPod is unique, allowing customers to discover new content with every checkout and to enjoy it on the go, in their own time and space!

In total, 38 iPods will be available at all OPL branches and bookmobiles on the Express shelf.
