    Share the enjoyment of good books in a relaxed atmosphere.  This group meets every first Tuesday of the month from September 2023 to June 2024.

    On 3 Oct, at 6:30PM, join us at Rockcliffe Park Branch to explore our night skies with Astronomer Dave Chisholm, President of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada - Ottawa Centre.  Dave will talk about the best ways from Earth to identify the planets and moons in our solar system, meteors and meteorites, the International Space Station and the constellations.  He will show us different tools and techniques that astronomers use to track the objects in outer space.

    This is a drop-in, adult, English event, and kids are also welcome!

    Barry will perform a well rounded selection of mandolin pieces on several instruments particular to the mandolin family of instruments.  His repertoire will include pieces from JS Bach, Raffaele Calace, Thurlough O’Carolan and more. He will talk about the mandolin family instruments and their history.  His performance will surely provide an enchanting musical experience.

    About Barry

    There are very few classical mandolin players in the modern world and Barry has been playing this instrument since he was six years old. As a teenager, he was a first mandolinist in the Montreal Mandolin Orchestra. He has played with many ensembles in the United States, Europe and Montreal. He currently studies classical mandolin with Jacob Reuven, a world class touring all-star in the classical mandolin world. Barry performs with a jazz quartet and as a classical soloist in the Ottawa and National Capital region.

    About Susan Toman

    Susan is published author and recording artist.

    After completing a doctorate at McGill University, fueled by a love of Irish & Scottish music, Susan studied harp basics with Annabelle Renzo in Montreal. She then completed intensive studies with Grainne Hambly in County Mayo, Ireland (and inspired by many castles!). She has performed throughout NA and most recently at the NAC.  Earlier this year she released her second CD, The Castle.
