Join us at Rockcliffe Park branch as we welcome back the off-the-grid, arborist, author and science enthusiast Paul Hetzler in a 2 part event: How to Plant your Victory Garden.
With food prices on the rise, home gardens make more sense than ever. Whether you have a sunny balcony or patio, or an acre of open land, you can have a successful garden. If you’re new to vegetable gardening, or just want more confidence, the keys to victory in gardens of any size are yours for the taking.
1 April: Session 1:
Get the dirt on your soil, which will also cover traditional, raised bed, and container gardens, with an emphasis on managing soil according to its type. Learn why garden layout and plant selection play such a big role in garden health, plus how to easily get ahead of common pests, diseases, and weeds.
8 April, Session 2:
You’ll learn how soil pH, texture, structure, and salinity affect plant growth, and how to tweak these to get higher yields. We’ll take a closer look at the diseases and pests you are most likely to encounter, and how to manage, and in some cases prevent, them. We’ll discuss common abiotic problems, as well as ways to mitigate the impact of climate change on gardens.
Register for one or both events. Space is limited. Adult, English.
