    Join our Creativebug workshops the last Saturday of each month! All material will be provided, and you will always get to take your creation with you. 

    Registration for each individual session required and attendance is limited. 

    Creativebug, which is included in your Library membership, gives you access to thousands of free arts & crafts video workshops. They are all taught by recognized design experts and artists. Categories include, but are not limited to, knitting, crochet, design, sewing, jewelry, and cooking. Classes are for beginner, intermediate and advanced students of all ages.

    • March 29, 2025: fold a paper lotus flower
    • April 26, 2025: seed "bombs"
    • May 31, 2025: workshop to be announced soon

    Joignez-vous à nos ateliers Creativebug les derniers samedis de chaque mois! Tout le matériel sera fourni, et vous pourrez toujours emporter votre création avec vous. Puisque les ressources de Creativebug sont disponibles en anglais seulement, les vidéos diffusées en bibliothèque seront toujours en anglais. Cependant, nos organisateurs se feront un plaisir de traduire les instructions pour vous si nécessaire; n'hésitez pas à nous le demander!

    L'inscription à chaque séance individuelle est obligatoire et le nombre de places est limité. 

    Creativebug, qui est inclus dans votre abonnement à la Bibliothèque, vous donne accès à des milliers d'enregistrements d'ateliers d’artisanat et de bricolage. Ils sont tous menés par des experts et des artistes connus. Les catégories incluent, entre autres, le tricot, le crochet, le design, la couture, la bijouterie, et la cuisson. Les cours ciblent les publics débutants, intermédiaires et avancés de tout âge.

    Retired teacher, mental health counselor, and local author Karl Flanagan discusses his compelling biography, “Good Bad Good Bad Good”, taking us on an exploration of ethics, morality, and survival while growing up in foster care.

    Karl Alexander Flanagan became a psychologist, psychometrist and teacher. In pursuit of helping young children, he became a director on the board for a chapter of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), a director of a youth detention centre, and an educator for elementary to university levels. He lives with his wife, Suzanne, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

    Do you need help with your tax return? If you have a modest income and a simple tax situation, trained volunteers may be able to complete your tax return for you for free. Ottawa Public Library is partnering with the Canada Revenue Agency to offer free tax preparation through the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program.

    The Beaverbrook Branch will be offering free tax clinics in English on a first-come, first-served basis.

    Before arriving to the free tax clinics, please verify whether you meet the Canada Revenue Agency’s eligibility criteria.

    Click on the "View full schedule" button on the right of the screen to see when the clinics will be offered. 

    Sign-up sheets will be made available 15 minutes prior to the clinic start time.

    Avez-vous besoin d’aide pour remplir votre déclaration de revenus? Si vous avez un revenu modeste et une situation fiscale simple, des bénévoles formés pourraient remplir vos déclarations de revenu gratuitement. La Bibliothèque publique d’Ottawa s’allie avec l’Agence du revenu du Canada afin d’offrir des comptoirs d’impôt gratuits par l’entremise du Programme communautaire des bénévoles en matière d’impôt.  

    La succursale Beaverbrook offrira des comptoirs d’impôts gratuits en anglais seulement selon le principe du premier arrivé, premier servi.

    Avant de vous présenter aux comptoirs d’impôt gratuits, veuillez vous assurer de répondre aux critères d’admissibilité de l’Agence du revenu du Canada.

    Appuyez sur le bouton « Voir l’horaire complet » à la droite de l’écran afin de voir quand les comptoirs seront offerts. 

    Les feuilles d'inscription seront disponibles 15 minutes avant le début de la séance.

    Dr. Denise Chong, award-winning chronicler of the history of Canada’s Chinese community and Officer of the Order of Canada, discusses the challenges and rewards of working with living subjects, relying on the fickle yet powerful nature of memory, the daunting task of gathering and weighing evidence, as well as the evolution of ideas into books.

    Join a band of adventurers as they set out from the seaside town of Dragonsbourne. This is part six of a continuing adventure that takes place in the location of Dragonsbourne, and its surroundings. This game is intended for teens who have played D&D before, but beginners are also welcome. Please bring a 3rd level character and dice. Pre-made characters and dice will be provided for those who do not have their own. This game is intended for ages 13-17.

    For children 7-12, interested in learning to play chess and finding out more about the game. Teen volunteers will be on hand to help those who are learning!

  • Sensory Storytime

    Join us for a program that features:

    · dimmed lighting

    · sensory toys

    · a smaller number of participants

    · an adapted circle time with stories, rhymes and songs

    During this program there will be opportunities for open play and a chance to connect with other families. The circle time portion of this program is offered in the last 20 minutes of the session. A family member must be present for the duration of the program.

    This program provides a welcoming environment and respects the needs of children from 18 months to 6 years who live with developmental disabilities and/or autism, or who show signs of a developmental delay.

    To ensure success with your plants and garden, it is important to master the basics of gardening. Paying attention to the basics is the best way to have healthy, well-grown plants.  Topics covered include: soil and soil conditions, watering, soil amendments and fertilization, pests and diseases, plant selection and planting.
