    Joignez-vous à d’autres amateurs de lecture afin de discuter de ce que vous avez lu récemment!

    Contrairement à un club de lecture, nous ne nous attendons pas à ce que chaque participant lise le même livre afin d’en explorer les détails. C’est plutôt une occasion de socialiser et d’obtenir de nouvelles recommandations… ou des avertissements concernant des livres (ainsi que des téléséries, films et albums) pouvant laisser à désirer!

    Nous vous encourageons à vous inscrire, mais les participants survenant le jour-même pourront se joindre à nous en fonction de notre capacité d’accueil.

    In 1924, "les allumetières" (match workers) of E.B. Eddy staged the first trike by women workers in Québec history. Three decades earlier, in 1891, 2,500 unionized sawmill workers had walked out in the largest strike-to-date in Canadian history. 

    Join Brian McDougall, adjunct professor from Carleton History and guide with Peoples’ History Walking Tours, to hear about these strikes and other important labour landmarks that took place in the Chaudière District.

    Join us  for a screening of Our People Will Be Healed.

    Our People Will Be Healed, Alanis Obomsawin’s 50th film, reveals how a Cree community in Manitoba has been enriched through the power of education. The Helen Betty Osborne Ininiw Education Resource Centre in Norway House, north of Winnipeg, receives a level of funding that few other Indigenous institutions enjoy. Its teachers help their students to develop their abilities and their sense of pride.

  • Workers in area destroyed by Halifax explosion / Ouvriers dans zone détruite par explosion d'Halifax

    On December 6, 1917, the Belgian relief vessel Imo struck the munitions-laden freighter Mont-Blanc in Halifax Harbour. The Mont-Blanc exploded in a devastating 2.9 kiloton blast, killing 2,000 people and injuring 9,000. More than 6,000 people were made homeless, and an additional 12,000 left without shelter. 

    Join Michael Dupuis, author of The Woman reporter and the Halifax explosion, to live the story of this disaster through the eyes and words of more than twenty journalists who reported the magnitude of the blast to the rest of the world.
