Do you love to write? Is writing the air you breathe, or is there ink in your veins?

The Stittsville Creative Writing Group is a collection of people who love to write.

We meet weekly to read from text we have written on our own time during the previous week, and engage in other writing activities.

This is not a class on writing, or a workshop for manuscripts. Instead, we are people who love to write and share our works.

There are those who mostly listen rather than write, those who write prolifically but only share with the group, and a broad spectrum in between.

If your interest is in the love of writing, this group may be for you.

Welcome to Writing Series - Narration and Narrators with Thom Whalen

The Stittsville Creative Writing Group, in conjunction with the Ottawa Public Library, is pleased to present the Welcome to Writing Series. This is a collection of seminars or workshops with the goal of making you a better writer. Our intent is to foster creativity, literacy, and love of the written word. Members of the SCWG will present on the indicated topic.

Often an author will often have a fictional character tell a story from his or her point of view, using his or her voice. This character is called the internal narrator. The choice of the internal narrator is a major factor in determining, not just the way the story is told, but what is included in the story and how it is to be interpreted. Thus, different narrators will tell different stories about the same events. Six short stories will be used to illustrate and stimulate discussion of the implications of using different internal narrators.

Welcome to Writing Series - Historic Fiction & Research with John C Nash & Allan McCarville

Registration is required.

Have you ever wanted to write historical fiction or perhaps write your family history, but don’t know where to start? Then this seminar is for you. This is a seminar on Research Methodologies for Historical Novels. The seminar will provide suggestions on how to undertake historical fiction, identify various sources of information, and identify some of the more common pitfalls that can get a writer into trouble. In writing the aim is to capture something of the atmosphere and feeling of the epoch of the works, avoiding errors of fact that lie in wait for the unwary author.
