    Celebrate Family Literacy Day 2024 virtually with author Barbara Reid!

    Join us at Rockcliffe Park for this hybrid virtual event with illustrator and author Barbara Reid.  Barbara will show you her unique techniques in using clay to create an illustration, as she does in her books.

    We will provide the clay and tools for you to create your own clay illustrations. 

    The event will end with a Q&A.

    Do you have a fun character that you'd like to create a story for? Come join award winning author/illustrator and graphic novelist, Rob Justus, on January 26th for an AMAZING storytelling workshop! Rob will share his helpful tips and tricks in drafting your hero's journey. From breathing life in your character and what they want and need; to the world they inhabit and the obstacles they need to overcome to accomplish their goal; along with how that character will grow over the course of your story. Come with the seeds of an idea and leave with a fruitful garden of storytelling delights!

    Barbara will be doing a demonstration on how to use clay to create a picture. She will share unique techniques you can use to make different things. The event is pre-recorded and will be viewed in branch as we follow along to create our own works of art using clay.

    This event is for families with children aged 6 to 12. Registration required

    It’s Family Literacy Day! What better way to celebrate family literacy than with a book launch.  Join author Rob Justus as he introduces you to his brand new graphic novel – Death and Sparkles 2: The Sacred Golden Cupcake. Rob will share some of his favorite parts of this book as well as what it takes to write a graphic novel, including a short workshop on how to draw your own characters.  By attending this program you will also have a chance to win a signed copy of this book.  This program is recommended for families with children age 8-12.
