    For National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, the Ottawa Public Library in partnership with the National Arts Centre, will be hosting a one man play called "Bloodline", written by elder Albert Dumont and Co-creator, writer and musician Phil Jenkins.

    This one-person play, “Bloodline”, examines Indian Act harms. Using autobiography, poetry and photography, Albert tells the story of how the Indian Act shaped not only his own life, but the lives of his parents and grandparents.

    Elder Albert Dumont, an Algonquin poet, storyteller and artist has been named the City of Ottawa's next English-language poet laureate in 2021.

    Phil Jenkins is a local renowned historian, author, columnist, lecturer, musician & songwriter will explore the musical & visual arts and architectural.

    The Ottawa Public Library welcomes you to a thought-provoking, day-long film festival, presented in partnership with the National Film Board of Canada, on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

    To commemorate National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, OPL chose to honour the Indigenous oral tradition by amplifying Indigenous voices and bring together our communities in the spirit of truth and reconciliation. Through the lens of these award-winning documentaries, the power of storytelling will help educate, inspire, and unite communities, as we reflect on our shared history and the path forward.

    So join us on September 30th, online via Zoom or at one of our seven open branches, on a cinematic journey centered around the theme of residential schools that explores the rich tapestry of Indigenous history, culture, and the path towards reconciliation.

    La Bibliothèque publique d'Ottawa vous invite à participer à un festival du film d'une journée, présenté en partenariat avec l'Office national du film du Canada, à l'occasion de la Journée nationale de la vérité et de la réconciliation.

    Pour commémorer ce jour important, la BPO a choisi d'honorer la tradition orale autochtone en amplifiant les voix autochtones et en rassemblant nos communautés dans l'esprit de la vérité et de la réconciliation. À travers l'objectif de ces documentaires primés, le pouvoir de la narration contribuera à éduquer, inspirer et unir les communautés, alors que nous réfléchissons à notre histoire commune et à la voie à suivre.

    Rejoignez-nous le 30 septembre, en ligne via Zoom ou dans l'une de nos sept succursales ouvertes, pour un voyage cinématographique centré sur le thème des pensionnats, qui explore la riche tapisserie de l'histoire et de la culture autochtone, ainsi que le chemin vers la réconciliation.

    It may look like simple doodling, but the Zentangle Method is a structured way to create beautiful black and white drawings. Practitioners of Zentangle say it is relaxing, improves focus and encourages creativity. Join us to learn the basics of Zentangle. Anyone can learn it, regardless of artistic skill and experience. This self guided program will take place Tuesday September 26th 2023 at the Munster Library.

    How do you distinguish real information from fake news? In this workshop, Marc-Alexandre Ladouceur from MediaSmarts will teach four quick, easy steps you can take to spot misinformation and find out if something online is true or not!

    MediaSmarts has been developing digital and media literacy programs and resources for Canadian homes, schools and communities since 1996. Through our work we support adults with information and tools so they can help children and teens develop the critical thinking skills they need for interacting with the media they love.

    Adults and teens are invited to get into the Halloween spirit and create an imperfect spooky piece of art.  At the end of the evening, you can vote which one is the worst!  All art supplies are provided.  Small pumpkins & gourds are also provided for those interested in decorating one for their spooky masterpiece.
