    In Canada, your credit score affects major life decisions - from getting an apartment to securing a good interest rate on a loan. Learn how the Canadian credit system works and build the knowledge you need to make smart financial choices.

    In This Workshop, You'll Learn:

    • The basics of credit in Canada and how it affects your daily life
    • Learn when to use credit
    • What's in your credit report and how to read it
    • Steps to build your credit history
    • Practical ways to maintain good credit
    • Which credit cards and loans best suit your needs
    • Better options than Payday loans and other high-interest products

    After the workshop, you'll know how to get your credit report, understand your credit score, and choose loans or credit cards that work best for you. You'll also learn to spot credit offers with very high interest rates, like payday loans, and discover better options to borrow money when needed.

    Chris Taylor, President of the Ottawa PC Users' Group, will help you with these quick and effective remedies.

    Storytelling Open Mic is a perfect place for newcomers to discover oral storytelling in a warm and supportive atmosphere or for more experienced tellers to test out new stories. Listeners are needed and welcome! You will hear folk tales, historical pieces, fractured fairy tales, true personal stories, recitations, ballads, and original stories - ranging from funny to poignant. Attendees can listen or tell a story 5-10 minutes long. In collaboration with Ottawa Storytellers.

    Happiness Habits 613 and Ottawa Public Library present: Happiness Book Club: Book Walk Book Talk

    Meet new people and join in discussions on selected titles in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Walks will start at the Sunnyside library.

    February's book walk book talk title is: IKIGAI: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life by Héctor García and Francesc Miralles. The authors explore the Japanese concept of ikigai, Happiness Habits 613 is a grassroots crew in Ottawa cultivating healthy habits using the 9 pillars of happiness: altruism, connection, gratitude, movement, mindfulness, minimalism, nature, nutrition and purpose.the "reason for being". The book aims to show how finding and pursuing one's ikigai can lead to a more fulfilling life.

    Enjoy a selection of films, each from an Italian director! Films will be presented with English subtitles. 

    Presented by the Ottawa Chapter of the Dante Alighieri Society in collaboration with the OPL presents a monthly Italian movie night. The Dante Alighieri Society is a volunteer not for profit organization registered in Ontario, dedicated to the promotion of Italian culture.

    January pick: Decameron  (1971) 1h 47m,  Comedy/Drama/LGBTQ+ 

       A series of stories revolves around an aspiring painter (Franco Citti), nuns, a gardener, a priest and a husband.

    March pick: La Tenerezza (2017) 1h 43m Drama

       In post-WWII Naples, an enigmatic woman and her husband move in near a cynical widower, changing his life forever.

    Try Dungeons & Dragons in this four-session adventure! Learn the rules and create your own character to explore and battle your way through the haunted Death House. Experienced and beginner players are welcome. Please bring a level 2 character. Pre-made characters and dice provided for those who do not have their own.​

    Registration required. Space is limited to 4 participants.

    Join the Carleton Poetic Society on the last Thursday of every month at the Sunnyside Library for a series of themed creative writing workshops.
