There are four time slots available on either July 5 or July 12 - 1:30 pm, 2:15 pm, 3:00 pm and 3:45 pm. Please register for only one time slot. You will have 30 minutes to "escape"! There is a maximum of 10 people per time slot.
Learning to read or reading on your own, come in and meet new people and talk about great new or old books. Listen to a read aloud, share your favourite book or just come and get some fresh ideas on what to read next. All while making a craft or two!

Do you love birds as much as we do? Come join us for an exciting kids workshop all about our feathered friends! In this workshop, we’ll learn about different birds in our community, their unique characteristics and how to identify them by sight and sound. Participants are introduced to traditional Métis jigging, learning the basic steps before engaging in dances including the “Red River Jig”, “Heel-Toe Polka”, “Orange Blossom Special”, and a group dance called the “7 step”. The artist begins with the basics of the dance while discussing Métis culture and history from the fur trade to today.
Brad Lafortune is Métis originally from Sudbury, Ontario. Brad began jigging at a young age and started providing workshops and performances in 2009 upon moving to Ottawa. Brad studied at the University of Ottawa where he received his Bachelor of Science followed by a Master’s of Physiotherapy. Brad enjoys combining his passion for physical activity and wellbeing with a deep love and understanding of his culture. Brad believes jigging is an interactive way to physically engage individuals of any age, all the while learning about the intricacies of Métis culture.

The YOU-nique program is all about empowering what makes you – and the animals around you - unique. Discover each animal's unique adaptation, how it makes them all special and how all the animals also benefit from each other's unique characteristics to overcome and problem-solve together. This program will feature LIVE animals, including the chance to touch some. Ages 4-8.
