Sorry this event and its waiting list are full

Step into the relaxing world of mosaics! In this workshop you will learn the basics of creating either a functional or a completely decorative mosaic, such as a trinket box or a piece of wall art.

There will be finished samples as well as possible designs that you can use to get your creative energy flowing. You will learn how to cut small glass and ceramic tiles using tile nippers, how to use the glue to fix them to the base, and some basic techniques on using the colour and shape of tiles to achieve movement in your mosaic. After the workshop, you will leave them to dry, and then they will be grouted and polished. When you return to pick them up, you can enjoy your one-of-a-kind mosaic!

    135 minutes

Join us for a screening of the NFB documentary, Beyond Paper.

At a critical moment in the history of the written word, as humanity’s archives migrate to the cloud, one filmmaker goes on a journey around the globe to better understand how she can preserve her own Romanian and Armenian heritage, as well as our collective memory. Blending the intellectual with the poetic, she embarks on a personal quest with universal resonance, navigating the continuum between paper and digital—and reminding us that human knowledge is above all an affair of the soul and the spirit.

Presentation courtesy of the National Film Board.

2 hours and 10 minutes. English and French, Romanian, Italian, Arabic, Spanish with English subtitles

Ink is our primal medium. It has always been with us, inscribing the evolution of humanity. The Colour of Ink uncovers the medium’s mystery and power through the eyes of Jason Logan, a visionary Toronto inkmaker. Working with ingredients foraged in the wild—weeds, berries, bark, flowers, rocks, rust—he makes ink from just about anything. Jason sends custom-made inks to an eclectic range of artists around the world, from a New Yorker cartoonist to a Japanese calligrapher. As the inks take on a life of their own, his playful alchemy paints a story of colour that reconnects us to the earth and returns us to a childlike sense of wonder.

105 minutes. English, Spanish, and Japanese with English subtitles.
