180 minutesJoin local author Sneha Madhavan-Reese for “Using Science in Poems.”
How can the use of scientific language elevate a poem? How can science be used as a handhold to bring a reader someplace new and unexpected? How can scientific facts in a poem add layers of meaning?
We will read and discuss published poems, have time for writing and sharing (if desired), and workshop a poem by each participant.
Please bring writing materials and a poem of your own (on any subject) for feedback from the group.
Sneha Madhavan-Reese is the author of two poetry collections, Observing the Moon and Elementary Particles. Her writing has appeared in publications around the world, including The Best Canadian Poetry in English 2016. She is the 2015 winner of Arc Poetry Magazine's Diana Brebner Prize, was shortlisted for the 2015 Montreal International Poetry Prize, and received an honourable mention at the 2018 National Magazine Awards. She serves on the editorial board of Canthius magazine and lives with her family in Ottawa. Visit her website at www.madhavan-reese.com/sneha

120 minutesThink about all the data on your PC; videos of the grandkids playing in a park, photos of your trip to Patagonia (lucky you!), tax records, emails… Now think about whether those files exist anywhere else. If the answer is no, you need to think about backup. You could lose data due to viruses, fire, theft, tornado, hard disk failure, making an unintended change to a file, or a wayward finger deleting a file.
Chris Taylor, President of the Ottawa PC Users' Group will discuss various ways you can ensure your important data survives any catastrophe.
