  • Campaign/campagne "crossings 200" and/et Ottawa Public Library/Bibliothèque publique d'Ottawa
    Sunday Apr 27, 2025 at 10:00am (series runs until May 31, 2025)

    Come view a series of historical photographs depicting the experience of the thousands of Norwegians that made their way to Canada since July 4, 1825, date of the first organized migration from Norway to North America. The photos are displayed along the second-floor balcony of the Main Branch and can be viewed anytime during hours of operation until the end of the month of May.

    The "Crossings 200" campaign celebrates the strong ties between Norway and Canada.

    Venez voir une série de photographies historiques dépeignant l'expérience de milliers de Norvégiens qui se sont rendus au Canada depuis le 4 juillet 1825, jour de la première migration organisée de la Norvège vers l'Amérique du Nord. Les photos sont affichées autours du balcon du deuxième étage de la Succursale Centrale, et vous pouvez les consulter à tout moment durant les heures d'ouverture jusqu'à la fin du mois de mai.

    La campagne « Crossings 200 » (site Web disponible en anglais seulement) célèbre les forts liens entre la Norvège et le Canada.

    Explore the Ottawa Public Library’s genealogy resources and how to use them during this information session. We will discuss how to access and use Ancestry Library, FamilySearch Affiliate Library, Genealogy Quebec, MyHeritage Library Edition, and the ProQuest Historical Newspapers. 

    This program will be held in the computer lab on the lower level so that you can follow along on the computer, but feel free to bring your own device if you would prefer.

    Want to learn more about your family history or getting stuck working on your family tree?  

    Drop-in to work on your family tree, share research strategies, and discover what resources are available for your research. Sessions are held every other Tuesday at 2:00pm in the Genealogy area. 

    Specialists from the Ontario Genealogical Society Ottawa Branch and the Ottawa Public Library will answer questions and help you get the most from library resources.  

    Bring your laptop, tablet, or borrow a Chromebook from the library.

    We encourage you to bring your laptop or tablet. You may be able to borrow a Chromebook from the library, depending on demand.

    Depending on attendance, genealogy drop-ins may become a regular recurring program at the Main branch!

    Nous vous encourageons à apporter votre propre ordinateur portable ou tablette. Vous pourriez être en mesure d'emprunter un Chromebook auprès de la bibliothèque, tout dépendant de la demande. 

    Selon le taux de participation, les séances de recherche généalogique portes ouvertes pourraient devenir un programme récurant à la Centrale!
