    Curious about Dungeons and Dragons? Give it a try with this one-session-long adventure for beginners! 

    D&D is a popular fantasy role-playing game in which your characters explore, solve puzzles, and fight or outwit monsters. Learn the basic rules of this popular game as you undertake an adventure with fellow players!  

    This adventure uses pre-generated characters, so you must register at least 5 days ahead of time to bid of your preference of character and get your info sheet before game-day. Late registrants will be assigned a random character.

    The Stittsville Creative Writing Group – Youth Program (SCWG-YP) is an extension of the adult program with the goals of: fostering creativity and literacy in the next generation, inspiring future writers, and preserving the art of the written word. 

    Participants are youth 13-17 years of age, unless granted an exemption. SCWG-YP participants and members meet once a month, on the third Monday of the month from 6:30pm-8:00pm, for a series of lectures and writing exercises designed to achieve the group’s goals. The group is led by an adult member of the SCWG.

    Deliverables undertaken by the SCWG-YP include: 

    · Discussion on writing theory;

    · Practical lessons on writing;

    · In-session and independent writing exercises; 

    · Appraisal and workshopping of ideas, and

    · Guidance on creative writing and practical advice about publishing.

    Drop by to play some of the many games on our Oculus Rift system! Explore mountains or deep seas, ride roller coasters, soar as an eagle, challenge your agility with Beat Saber or Fruit Ninja, defend your castle as an archer or your spaceship with a laser, and many more! 

    All games are single-player with English dialogue/text.

    Safety tip: to prevent falls, wear closed flat shoes, not flip-flops or heels

    Ages: 10 to Adult (headset may be too large to fit smaller players)

    Note: this session is a repeat of the adventure played on October 16th, so if you played that session, please do not register for this session - it would be less fun knowing the puzzles and enemies ahead of time. Give other beginners a chance to learn, and stay tuned for a new game coming up later!

    How do you distinguish real information from fake news? In this workshop, Marc-Alexandre Ladouceur from MediaSmarts will teach four quick, easy steps you can take to spot misinformation and find out if something online is true or not!

    MediaSmarts has been developing digital and media literacy programs and resources for Canadian homes, schools and communities since 1996. Through our work we support adults with information and tools so they can help children and teens develop the critical thinking skills they need for interacting with the media they love.

    Adults and teens are invited to get into the Halloween spirit and create an imperfect spooky piece of art.  At the end of the evening, you can vote which one is the worst!  All art supplies are provided.  Small pumpkins & gourds are also provided for those interested in decorating one for their spooky masterpiece.
