I was so excited when I found out that The Selection series was going to be continuing with a fourth book. There was still so much that I felt was unanswered after I finished reading The One; I wanted to know more about the rebels and I wanted to know how Maxon and America’s relationship would develop once they were finally able to be a couple without any of the Elite hanging around. What I found when reading The Heir was not all of the answers to my most burning questions, but something a little more real.
The Heir starts 20 years after the conclusion of The One; America and Maxon have had four children and Illea has been experiencing a lot of peace since the cast system was dissolved. Now, our favourite couple’s eldest child, Eadlyn, has come of age and is learning the family business – how to rule. She has no interest in romance or giving up any sort of power to a man. Of course, readers know that a new selection is about to begin and like her mother was 20 years ago, Eadlyn is not excited about it.
Eadlyn wants to be strong, she needs to be strong, but that has left a lot of people feeling like she’s a cold person. She also feels that she herself has to be alone in order to be strong. Will she learn that love and the future queendom can go hand-in-hand? Will one of these selection boys in her heart?
While a little different in tone, this book is a must for all fans of The Selection series.
Finally, let’s also just take a moment to ogle the cover of this book! I think it’s the prettiest cover in the series yet.
