Seymour Mayne Perfume: Poems and Word Sonnets

head shot and book cover

Join us during Poetry Month for an evening with prolific poet Seymour Mayne as he engages in a literary conversation with his colleague from Ottawa U, Natalia Vesselova. They will discuss his latest collection of poetry Perfume: Poems and Word Sonnets.  Mayne will read and display selections from this collection and will talk about the poems and about his writing process.  Mayne is the leading international innovator of the word sonnet, a unique new ‘miniature’ form.

He has given readings and lectured widely in Canada and abroad. Professor Emeritus in the Department of English and the Faculty of Arts at the University of Ottawa, he has helped sustain the national capital literary and artistic community.

According to critics, the poems collected in Perfume are among Mayne’s best. After more than six decades of writing, and with more than 70 publications to his credit, Mayne is showing no signs of slowing down, even though there is a melancholic tone to many of the poems – ruminations on the approaching dusk, the fading light of the descending sun in the moments it reaches over the horizon line.
