Just a Normal Tuesday by Kim Turrisi --- Teen Book Review

Submitted on behalf of NC TAG Member Catherin Li.

It was just a normal Tuesday until it became the Tuesday where her life would begin to spin out of control. Kai is consumed by an unspeakable grief when she finds a suicide note from her beloved older sister, Jen. With a fractured heart she copes by losing herself to the very drugs that killed her sister, ditching school and distancing herself from loved ones. Just as she's about to hit rock bottom, her parents offer her a lifeline: a summer away to a grief camp. Hesitant to agree, she does so anyway. There, she finds solace, hope, love and so much more than she could have ever dreamed of. This is the story of how Kai's broken heart began piece back together.

Just a Normal Tuesday by Kim Turrisi is a standalone novel of the contemporary genre. Beautifully written, the reader experiences this haunting tale through a very raw and unfiltered perspective. Although this novel is centred around a very sensitive subject, it is treated with the ultra most care and respect - which I greatly appreciate. The characters are real, unique and relatable. Through them you learn answers to a question with no answer, you learn how to hope when everything is lost and you learn to see beauty in anguish. Overall, this exquisite tale was nothing short of breathtaking.

I give Just a Normal Tuesday a 4.5 out of 5 stars and would recommend it to readers of all ages looking for a solemn read filled with hope. It's a rare and beautiful gem rooted in the personal experience of the author.

This novel is recommended for readers 12 and up.
