Breaking News from the 1820s

There weren't a lot of stores in this area 200 years ago.  If you needed a retail therapy fix you probably went to Bellows & Stacey, a flourishing store in the Town of Sherwood, located at Chaudière Falls from 1824-1828.  In 1828 the townsite vanished, and so did Bellows & Stacey.  Until this year, when the store's account book was discovered in a museum in Vermont.  It has much to tell us about the local economy and the earliest settlers on both sides of the river.  And it's coming home.

Join us on October 16 when Bruce Elliott will tell the story of Bellows & Stacey, and City of Ottawa Museums staff will bring the account book itself for you to have a look at.
