National Canadian Film Day

Celebrate National Canadian Film Day on Wednesday April 18th!  National Canadian Film Day is a massive, coast-to-coast celebration of Canadian cinema brought to you by REEL Canada.

The Hazeldean branch will be screening The Breadwinner at 12pm (rating PG, 94 min.) and Long Time Running at 2pm (rating G, 97 min.)

The Breadwinner was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 2017 Academy Awards. Parvana is an 11-year-old girl who lives under Taliban rule in Afghanistan in 2001. After the wrongful arrest of her father, Parvana cuts off her hair and dresses like a boy to support her family. Working alongside a friend, she soon discovers a new world of freedom and danger. Drawing strength from the fantastical stories she invents, Parvana embarks on an epic quest to find her father and reunite her family.

Long Time Running chronicles the emotional and epic 2016 tour that The Tragically Hip embarked on after iconic frontman Gord Downie announced that he had been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. Intimate moments, behind-the-scenes and on-stage footage, personal interviews with the band and close friends reveal the heart-breaking final performances of that now-legendary final tour.
