    Do you believe in ghosts? Join Joel A. Sutherland, the award-winning author of the bestselling Haunted Canada series and many spooky novels, for an event filled with storytelling, history, humour…and ghosts, of course! Joel, who grew up in Ottawa, will also share some local ghost stories and tips for aspiring young writers in this fun, interactive program. Also, with Halloween just around the corner, we invite you to start the party early and wear your costume!

    Bio:

    Joel A. Sutherland is the Silver Birch Award-winning author of numerous volumes of Haunted Canada (a series that now has more than 500,000 copies in print and is celebrating its 20th anniversary), Screamers (Scholastic Canada), and Summer's End (a Red Maple Award Honour Book currently in development for television by Scholastic Entertainment). His series, Haunted, including The House Next Door, has been praised by Goosebumps author R.L. Stine. His latest release is his debut young adult novel, House of Ash and Bone (Tundra Books). He will explain the decisions an author must make when designing both the cover and interior of a book. This understanding is important to authors who publish their own books, whether they develop the skills themselves or contract with specialists to do the work for them.
