I watched an interview with Gaia Vince, whose book “Nomad Century” Sean recommended so strongly. Gaia is quite beautiful, but her ideas are naïve in the extreme. She is concerned about fighting against each tenth of a degree increase in the global temperature with all our might at the very time the Americans are bound and determined to replace Russian natural gas for Europe with hugely more carbon-intensive alternatives, and are sabotaging natural gas pipelines just to make sure it happens. However, when she brings up the Russo-Ukrainian War, it is only to say that the massive Ukrainian refugee flows to other Western countries, which almost all decent people accept as a temporary expedient, is an argument for open borders on a permanent basis! And is she really even sure that global warming will be the big problem for our decade, if a Russia-America nuclear war creates a nuclear winter? I would advise Sean to cool his “save the planet” rhetoric. Grossly irresponsible actions by national leaders could certainly threaten our continued existence as a species, but the earth will continue to orbit the sun as always. He would be better advised to worry about humanity, and let the earth fend for itself.
