  • UPDATE – Provincial announcement regarding public libraries and pickups

    28/05/2020

We greatly appreciate the Province’s announcement that as part of the first phase of reopening libraries can begin to offer pick-up or delivery of materials.

There is a lot of work to do be able to offer these services while ensuring the safety of our employees and our customers. Our plan to resume our physical services needs to account for physical distancing requirements, provision of personal protective equipment, enhanced sanitary controls, and new protocols for employees and customers. We are working on offering holds pick-ups as soon as we can safely do so.

We will be communicating all new developments in our service offering to you on all our platforms, as soon as we have updates.

Thank you for your patience as we move through this rapidly evolving situation.

    ******

OPL branches, Bookmobile stops and Homebound delivery services are closed until June 30, 2020. The closure is in response to advice from Ottawa Public Health (OPH) with regards to COVID-19 (coronavirus) for the health and safety of our community. We will continue to monitor the situation and reassess as the situation evolves. Currently, please note:

    • Due dates for all currently checked out materials have been extended and late fees suspended.
    • Book drops are not available since branches are closed. Hold on to OPL items and return them when branches reopen.
    • Holds are suspended, and pick up expiry dates extended. This includes interlibrary loans (ILL).
    • Meeting room rentals are cancelled, and fees are being refunded; and
    • Computer bookings, programs, events and outreach activities are cancelled.
    • Expired cards, or those about to expire, have been extended.

You can use the Library online:

We thank you for your patience and support, and we look forward to seeing you online and in person again soon.

Enter your library card / PIN and tap on Login. By continuing you are agreeing to cloudLibrary’s terms of use.

Visit the cloudLibrary page at: https://ebook.yourcloudlibrary.com/library/ottawapl/

Step 2
Click on Login and enter your library card and PIN

To transfer titles to a Kobo
Download the Windows cloudLibrary software from cloudLibrary website

Once installed, cloudLibrary will prompt you for your location as well as your Library Card number and PIN. You must agree to their legal terms before continuing.  If you wish to use both cloudLibrary and Overdrive, you have to make sure to be using the same Adobe ID. We recommend that you do not use the “Automatically generate ID for cloudLibrary” option.

Example 1, CloudLibrary detects your Adobe ID

Example 2, If CloudLibrary doesn’t detect your Adobe ID and you use or plan on using Overdrive, choose ‘Explicitly provide an Adobe ID‘ and enter it manually. If you do not have an Adobe ID, go to Adobe’s website to create one: http://www.adobe.com/ca/solutions/ebook/digital-editions.html

Go to My Books to see checked out eBooks. If your Kobo is connected to your computer, the Transfer to Device button should appear. Click on this button.

How do I return an eBook?

Please note that you can only have 2 Express eBooks checked out at a time. To return an eBook click on My Books, List View, and then Return.

I accidentally accepted the cloudLibrary ID instead of installing my personal Adobe Digital Editions ID.

For Windows 7
Go to the Start menu. Search %appdata%
This should pull up a list of folders.
Delete the cloudLibrary folder (basically just its cache, it is also where it stores an Adobe ID for DRM purposes).
The next time you check out a book in the cloudLibrary and open it, the cloudLibrary will use whatever Adobe ID your Adobe Digital Editions is authorized with. If you do not have ADE, it will ask if you wish to use the system-generated ID or to enter your own.
