Quebec author Marie-Claire Blais dies at 82

Many of you may have already heard the sad news: novelist Marie-Claire Blais passed away at the age of 82. 

This prolific author, leading figure of French-Canadian literature, wrote and published books every other year since her debut in 1959 with La belle bête. She continued to deliver greatness until her last novel, published a little over two months ago.

Marie-Claire Blais also worked in other genres such as theater and poems. Her work is recognized and studied in multiple universities across the globe, especially her novel Une saison dans la vie d’Emmanuel (1965).

I did not know she passed away. Thank you for posting this. Many years ago, I read books on tape at UBC for visually impaired students and one of those books was Deaf to the City. I will never forget it. Clamato
