Agents, editors, and professors of creative writing make a big deal about point of view (POV). As well, different POVs sound and feel different to the reader, POV comes in different flavors: first person, second person, third person limited, omniscient, objective; and different cases: past and present; and different depths. Furthermore, you can use different POVs in different sections of a story to achieve different effects. Deft management of POV in your stories will make your writing more professional and more appealing to readers.

Do you love to write? Is writing the air you breathe, or is there ink in your veins?
The Stittsville Creative Writing Group is a collection of people who love to write.
We meet weekly to read from text we have written on our own time during the previous week, and engage in other writing activities.
This is not a class on writing, or a workshop for manuscripts. Instead, we are people who love to write and share our works.
There are those who mostly listen rather than write, those who write prolifically but only share with the group, and a broad spectrum in between.
If your interest is in the love of writing, this group may be for you.

90 minutes“Show, don’t tell” is well-known advice in the writing world, but it’s often misunderstood. In this interactive workshop, we’ll explore the concepts of ‘showing’ and ‘telling’ to understand when to use each effectively, since good writing balances both. We’ll discuss common pitfalls with ‘telling’ and demonstrate practical techniques to ‘show’ more, creating a more immersive reader experience. After participating in this workshop, you’ll be able to show like a pro and tell really well.
