At a Death Café, people gather together to discuss death. This event doesn’t have any particular objectives or themes aside from increasing everyone’s awareness of death and exploring our relationships with death, dying and grief. As we grapple with what life looks like today, having a safe and non-judgmental space to talk about difficult subjects is so important and can have a significant impact both on how we live and how we die.

Ottawa Public Library is partnering with the Home Hospice Association to offer death cafés with various themes. Check out the OPL website for upcoming death cafés (spring 2024).

“Show, don’t tell” is well-known advice in the writing world, but it’s often misunderstood. In this interactive workshop, we’ll explore the concepts of ‘showing’ and ‘telling’ to understand when to use each effectively, since good writing balances both. We’ll discuss common pitfalls with ‘telling’ and demonstrate practical techniques to ‘show’ more, creating a more immersive reader experience. After participating in this workshop, you’ll be able to show like a pro and tell really well.
